WHEN ROOT SPARKLE, VIBRISSE SPROUT

On Tuesday 14 March 2023 the VVV-R conversations moved from the web-rooms of the art residency to the spaces of SuperOtium with the opening of the video exhibition When Roots Sparkle, Vibrisse Sproute and screening-talk with and about Bianco-Valente.

When Roots Sparkle, Vibrisse Sprout is the title with which the curators of the VVV-R project, Alessandra Arnò and Simona Da Pozzo, present the process and the works created during the online residency. During their few days in Naples, the artists, authors of the video works on show, complete the sharing process begun in January 2023 with the VVV-R research and audiovisual production residency. Thanks to an exploration of the images and clips found in the vast sea of the web, with this exhibition the artists, Evelyn Chow, Daisy Bayliss, Katie Kelly and Amie Dodgson return to our vision the process of re-signifying some fragments of the collective digital imaginary through four works, which will be projected in a loop starting at 5pm.

The artists' works meet at the intersection of the plant and animal worlds through a shared, multifaceted investigation of perception. Each work investigates perception from a decentralised perspective using different strategies and research tools based on the use of the web: elaboration of questionnaires and feedback loops, data collection on animal vision, repositioning in the strategy of narration, explorations of the microscopic.

At 6 p.m., the artists Bayliss, Chow, Dodgson, Kelly invite Bianco-Valente to talk about their artistic trajectory: how has their work, process and relationship with the art world changed over time? The artists have questioned how large and small events impact the artists' research and this meeting will be a valuable opportunity to gain an insight into the work of Bianco-Valente but also into the mechanisms and intuitions that have determined and determine their research. During the talk with Bianco-Valente, the artist duo will project some works and talk about their practice, and then open the conversation with questions from the participants. Their narrative will start from the period in which their research focused on the cognitive dimension of perception, marked by a predilection for the use of video in the context of the white cube, up to their current practice, centred on the dialogue with public space and the communities that use it.
