Angela Carter - The Bloody Chamber

A rewritten fairytale from a feminist perspective, Carter took the story of Bluebeard and wrote it from the first person perspective of the girl (protagonist). It gives her more of a personality than in the traditional version that is written in thrid person and portrays the girl only as a helpless victim.

It reframes the sexual violence by changing the perspective by using mirrors. When something violent happens the description focuses on what the girl sees in a mirror which acts as the antagonist's 'eye', it changes the girls view of herself from a person to an object in a mirror.

She objectifies herself to escape the idea that it is happening to her.

This is another thing that gives me the similar feeling of comfortable, familiar stories but ends up being very uncomfortable and upsetting to read like the ormer videos are to watch.

In a similar way I could use this idea of 'reframing' in my work with the ormer footage.
