I have just started reading this trying to understand more about Soviet cinema and how the fairytale genre in Russia changed under communism. Russian fairytales have always been a bit strange and unusual compared to western ones, but under communism they changed to support Stalinist narratives. Soviet animation reflects this, as a lot of them were original stories or ones based on books written in USSR. Some soviet animation was based on classic Russian fairytales which I want to explore in my work. The book also shows how some of these animations were made, which I'm interested in seeing.
