EVELYN//KILL TIME, SPEND TIME

There are so many repetitions of time in our life, such as the artwork, Crip Time, in 2018, suggested by Amie. It shows spending time and repeated activities. In another situation, time is not spent, but being 'killed'.

This video shows a new way to measure time and reflects on the experience of living with chronic illness. The labels are worn from use, one by one, each pill keeps time like an irregular clock. Here, we can the passage of time on changes in labels. Besides, the colourful pill boxes contain a duration, which is the number of pills.

Apart from spending time, sometimes we 'kill' it. Serena Vestrucci keeps cutting out book pages during her free time, as a way to kill time. It is a practice to keep herself busy when she has nothing to do.

We all do have a moment when we feel bored. Usually, we repeatedly do one thing to 'kill' our time. This idea has been applied to many artworks. One of the most famous artists is Andy Warhol. His screenprints of Marilyn Monroe present movement and duration. Although Warhol used an image to print out this art piece. The start of motion can be told by the state of the ink. When the image is darker and clearer, which means more there is more ink, this moment is closer to the starting point. As the action progressed, the ink started to run out, and when it reduced, it created exposure of Marilyn Monroe like the one on the right of this picture. The end of duration ends at the brightest image.
