Daisy// Research - Gazes, perspectives

Looking at the book Animals I found these quotes in the essay by Seung-Hoon Jeong, A Global Cinematic Zone of Animals and Technology pg. 93-100

‘they stand in for none other than human characters or nothing but unruly antagonistic nature’

‘animals exist as the Animal only and always as viewed by, and related to, the Human’

‘We immediately recognise animal allegories for human characteristics’

‘Challenges precisely not the human world but the humanist frame of nature’

‘the animal as/for the human’

Non-human animals are generally seen as actors within the human world to be used within mankinds narrative.

Looking into foxes further how they interpret the world. Not a lot of research and solid fact has been made about how foxes see but looking at these websites (https://www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/how-do-other-animals-see-the-world.html , https://www.wildlifeonline.me.uk/questions/answer/are-foxes-colour-blind) I found that foxes hearing is there best sense with vision coming next before smell. Their vision interprets movement better than stationary objects. Also, as foxes are I the canid family with dogs and wolves it is thought their sight is somewhat similar to that of a dog so they are unable to pick up reds and greens as you can see in these images from the websites.

I want to explore footage using this colouring and also the influence of sound on how the footage is seen.

I like the film trailer that Amie shared on the blog for me called LEVIATHAN (TIFF Festival 2012) this perspective putting the camera into a role as a fish getting the movement and viewpoint of this adapting threat. (I’ve added a screenshot of that bellow)
