Overlooked Narratives

Whilst thinking about authenticity of footage, AI and how media algorithms control what we see online, I wanted to look at footage from the 50s to 80s, exploring how things were filmed (home videos to adverts) in comparison to what I see now when scrolling online. 


The Prelinger Archive, https://archive.org/details/prelinger?tab=collection has an amazing collection, covering a variety of subjects and genres. 


Looking at videos I wouldn’t normally come across made me think of Elizabeth Prices, The Woolworths Choir of 1979. Price highlights gaps in history and narratives that have been overlooked, gaps that digital archives, despite their vastness, do not always fill. There is a blend of storytelling and documentary created through this process, something I want to explore more…
