Booming Birth of the Digital Age
Last week, my research into the 'tower' card in tarot, lead me down the roots of natural disasters and an animated film caught my attention. Ra: The Path of the Sun God is a dream-like animation from Glasgow, 1990 that explores ancient Egyptian mythology surrounding creation and the afterlife, specifically the journey of the sun god Ra. The kaleidoscopic imagery, calming atmosphere and narration intrigued me and drew me in. I was very attracted to its visual interpretation of the Egyptian mythology.
This lead me to the concept of an on-screen birth, a digital creation before the eyes. I compiled some clips of old computer sound tests and startups. I researched the UK copyright laws and tightened my search to copyright free videos, stock footage and sounds. A film I've decided to take some clips from is Metropolis as it is in the public domain.
I've started piecing my clips together, and have really enjoyed playing with different effects and layering, splicing contrasting clips together whilst keeping the aesthetics pleasing. I am pleased with my progress and my process so far, and I'm excited to show you all what I have created soon!
